What this is about
Taking off is easy. Landing is what costs ships at the start. Both here in the short version.
Getting clearance
At stations and spaceports you need clearance from air traffic control (ATC). The game text says: call the landing services through the comms menu on your MFD or in your mobiGlas and make the request there – for landing just as for take-off.q2
The controls have a dedicated function for it (“request landing”).q1
Taking off
- Systems on, ramp closed.
- Request clearance and wait until the hangar door is open.
- Rise slowly, only then accelerate.
- Retract the landing gear – there is a dedicated function for it.q1
Landing
- Request clearance before you arrive.
- Deploy the landing gear.q1
- Descend slowly, stay level.
- If it gets tricky: there is an autoland function.q1
Some ships additionally have a VTOL mode where the thrusters swivel for vertical flight; there is a function for that too.q1

- Take off once and land again.
