Editorial in-game review

Nobody from the editorial team has flown it in game yet. The information comes from the sources listed below.

What you will learn

  • Be able to say for every column of the laser table where the value comes from.
  • Know what the data does not say about lasers.

Prerequisites

No special prerequisites listed.

What this is about

The “mining head” is the mining laser on the ship. The tables show all freely selectable size 1 and 2 mining lasers from the Chronist.q1 They are sorted alphabetically, not by strength – and they are not a ranking.

Three solid boxes ship, mining laser, rock with arrows; below a dashed box modules with a question mark.
DiagramMining system – overview UNCONFIRMEDShip → mining laser → rock: this chain is in our data (slots, laser values, ores). Where the modules sit and what they change is dashed – not yet confirmed.Own graphic · claude-entwurf, 2026-09-11

Mining lasers, size 1 q1From the game data · 4.10.0-hotfix (55227)

Alphabetical by name, not by strength. Values without units – the records give none.

According to the slot data the Prospector carries one size 1 laser, the MOLE three size 2 lasers.q3

Whether a laser also fits a slot of a different size is not in our data.

What the columns mean

Name and manufacturer

From the game's language file and manufacturer entry.q1

Mining power

The Chronist reads it from the laser's beam block: the damage value per second the beam deals according to the record.q2 The record gives no unit.

How this value relates to the laser power you control in mining mode has not been checked.

Range opt. and range max.

Two data fields of the beam: “fullDamageRange” (opt.) and “zeroDamageRange” (max.).q2 By their names the beam works fully up to the first limit and not at all beyond the second.

How the effect changes between the two limits, the fields do not say.

Power

The power units the laser takes up according to the record.q2 In our data size 1 lasers take one unit, size 2 lasers two.q1

What the data does not say

Mass and durability are the same for all mining lasers in our data – so they are not in the table.q1 Not in our data:

  • influence on the rock's resistance or instability,
  • module slots on the laser,
  • an optimal power window.
Two entries are left out on purpose: a size 2 laser listed only under a test identifier, and the size 0 laser.

Which modules exist: Mining modules & consumables. The controls: Mining – from scan to cargo.q4

Checklist

  • You know which laser size your ship carries according to the slot data.
  • You do not read a “best laser” from the highest number.
